Eric D. Berlin is an Attorney at Hertz Schram, where he works with individuals and businesses in all areas of litigation and business matters. Eric focuses his practice on medical malpractice claims, commercial litigation and business disputes, and general/civil litigation, as well as providing counseling and representation to clients regarding business/corporate issues. Eric works to achieve the best results for his clients by vigorously and aggressively representing their interests and serving as their counselor, advocate, and problem-solver, all while bringing enthusiasm, energy, and professionalism to his work.
Eric has been a litigator throughout his career and has extensive experience representing his client’s interests at the state and federal levels, including cases in the United States Supreme Court. He has broad and extensive litigation experience that includes contractual matters, commercial/business disputes, shareholder/member claims (including shareholder oppression claims), collection cases, real estate matters, non-compete/non-solicitation claims, trade secrets litigation, and premises liability cases, among others. Eric has additional experience in corporate transaction work, business formation and legal issues, and financial crisis management counseling to businesses and individuals.
As a result of his legal practice, Eric has been selected by Best Lawyers: “Ones to Watch” in Commercial Litigation for 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Additionally, Eric was named a 2020 “36 Under 36” honoree by the Detroit Jewish News.
Eric graduated cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law, after earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan. While in law school, Eric was selected to participate in the Trial Practice Institute – a selective, two-year curriculum covering every stage of litigation – and he was consequently awarded a concentration in Trial Practice. Eric was also an active member of the Michigan State International Law Review, where he served as a Senior Associate and published The Israeli Supreme Court’s Targeted Killings Judgment: A Reaffirmation of the Rule of Law During War, 21 Mich. St. Int’l. L. Rev. 517 (2013). Eric was also a competitor on the law school’s Moot Court & Trial Advocacy Board, where his participation included three national competitions (where he received top individual scores in his final competition), as well as serving as the team’s Recruitment chair. Additionally, Eric served as the President of the Jewish Law Student Association at Michigan State University College of Law.
Eric is engaged with the community as a member of the Board of Directors for NextGen Detroit (a branch of the Jewish Federation of Detroit designed to engage young adults and professionals throughout Detroit and the metro area). Eric also serves on the Board of Directors for the Michigan B’nai B’rith Youth Organization. Eric is also involved with Therapy Dogs International, where he and his dog Rocky are a certified therapy team capable of visiting schools, nursing homes, and libraries.
Eric is active in the legal community through his engagement with the Young Lawyers, Business Law, Negligence, and Litigation sections of the State Bar of Michigan. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan (2020-2022) and the Board of Directors for the Barristers section of the Detroit Bar Association (2019-2022). He is also a past presenter for Lorman Legal on the Enforcement of Judgments.
