“I’m grateful to be able to help my clients through a very difficult time in their lives, and for many it is their first time ever having to deal with the court system. It is rewarding to assist clients and see them grow and prosper after a life changing event”

-Attorney Donna Virkus

I have gone through a divorce and had two young children at the time. I know first hand the concerns and anxiety that clients have during the divorce process. I can counsel you through the process and assist you to achieve your goals and bring your case to resolution.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University with a major in Industrial Marketing. I have a vast amount of experience in business ranging from managing accounts to starting a new business and making it a successful and thriving company. After I divorced, I decided to make a career change. I went back to college knowing I wanted to earn a graduate degree and that led me to enter law school. By achieving a high score on the LSAT I was able to be admitted to Thomas M. Cooley Law School on a scholarship.

While attending law school I worked full time. I worked as a clerk at Oakland County Circuit Court – Family Division and I clerked for Judge Edward Sosnick. Being in the courtroom every day and learning the court process was an invaluable experience. Having hands on experience in family law cases from the beginning of the process through the end resolution with the court, seeing hundreds of attorneys argue cases and how the attorneys and the judges handle the cases sparked my interest in being a family law attorney. It was during this time that I decided to concentrate in Litigation at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Being in moot court allowed me to have experience, while in law school, acting as an attorney. I was on the Dean’s List several times and earned a certificate in Litigation.

Upon Judge Sosnick’s retirement I worked as a legal assistant at a law firm while I completed law school. The firm exclusively handled family law cases. This experience gave me broader knowledge of handling complex cases from a law firm perspective. While working for the firm I graduated from law school and passed the bar exam. I continued to work for the firm and practiced family law exclusively. I decided I wanted to learn and practice in different areas of law to expand myself as an attorney, so I moved to a firm that was a general practice firm. This gave me experience handling many types of cases, such as personal injury, bankruptcy, criminal, contract disputes, and many others, including family law. Through this experience I discovered that family law was my area of expertise and I found it rewarding to assist my clients through the legal process. I then joined a firm to establish their family law practice and handled all of the family law cases for the firm. I also practiced in Probate and Estate Planning.

Testimonials

Patient. Thorough. Detailed. Those are the first words that come to mind when describing such wonderful representation such as Donna Virkus. I needed an attorney to update an order, and choosing Mrs. Virkus was the best decision! Anticipating court and the unknown was nerve wrecking, especially with my previous history with awful representation. But Mrs. Virkus’ informative insight on the process and what to potentially expect, her detailed instructions, combined with her professionalism, calm nature, and willingness and readiness to go to bat for me was enough to ease my worries. Luckily, I was pleased with the outcome and forever grateful for her assistance. If you are looking to be treated like just a number, don’t choose Donna Virkus—because she’s an attorney that cares!

Donna provided me the most professional support during a challenging time of my life, mainly because I am not from this country and not aware of all the steps/ laws/ forms and processes in the court. She was always on top of everything in regards to the cause, court requests, documents, etc., has a great knowledge and experience and always replied my questions in short time and act on the best of interest of me and my family.

The legalities of guardianship can be painful, stressful and confusing. This is especially so when it involves family and the future of a young one. Unfortunately, I found myself in this situation with no direction or assistance. Needless to say, I was lost and filled with anxiety. Salvation came to me with the name of Donna Vircus. She took an interest in my plight and gave me a plan and direction. Her professional yet caring counsel was honest and knowledgeable. Donna guided me through this dark time in my life. With her by my side there was no more confusion. Donna was so prepared and confident at every step of the journey to the point that I actually found my own anxiety lifted. Her diligence has secured the safety of my loved one. I cannot imagine having gone through this without Donna Vircus as my attorney. She is my Angel and I am thankful for her each and every day.
